Trautwein officially moves on from Insurance Professionals

Janet Trautwein has left her position as CEO of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals. It was announced in January that she would step down at the end of this year. She has joined Warner Pacific Insurance Services as compliance and government affairs executive as of Nov. 8. Jessica Brooks-Woods became the association’s CEO in September.

Gammel gets top role at Physicists in Medicine

The American Association of Physicists in Medicine announced David Gammel will be the organization’s next executive director, effective Jan. 2, 2024. He will succeed Angela Keyser, who joined AAPM in 1993 and has led it since 2004. 

“David Gammel is a distinguished leader in the nonprofit community,” said Keyser. “I have had the privilege of working alongside him on the CESSE board of directors. I have complete confidence that David possesses the ideal skill set and vision to lead AAPM into the future.”

Gammel joins AAPM from association consulting firm McKinley Advisors, where he has been chief practice officer since December 2019. Previously, he was executive director of the Entomological Society of America for eight years. Earlier in his career, he also held positions at High Context Consulting, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the Employee Relocation Council.

He has a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Miami University and a master’s in international communication from American University.

American Association of ImmunologistsGwen Fortune-Blakely has been named chief membership and engagement officer. She arrives from the Bipartisan Policy Center, where she has spent the past two years as the vice president of marketing. She also spent seven years at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, most recently as director of enterprise-wide marketing and sales. 

America’s Public Television StationsMichelle Shanahan has joined APTS as general counsel. Most recently she was deputy general counsel and assistant secretary at NPR, where she spent 25 years. Earlier in her career, she was an associate at law firm Hogan & Hartson.

Beer InstituteAndrew Heritage has joined the Beer Institute as chief economist. His most recent role was senior economist at the Coalition for a Prosperous America. Previously, he was lead economist of communications and policy at technology company Thumbtack and senior policy and data analyst at the National Federation of Independent Business.

National Marine Manufacturers AssociationRobyn Boerstling has joined NMMA as senior vice president of government relations. She has spent the past 15 years at the National Association of Manufacturers, most recently as vice president of infrastructure, innovation and human resources policy. Previously, she spent three years at the U.S. Department of Transportation.

TechNetTrent Edwards has returned to TechNet as senior vice president for membership and growth. He was previously vice president of membership and strategic partnerships at the organization from 2019 to 2022. Most recently, he was vice president of technology member development at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Previously, he was director of development for the Congressional Leadership Fund and the American Action Network.

USTelecomMariah Wollweber has joined USTelecom as senior director of communications. Most recently, she was director of communications and partnerships at the National Association of Wheat Growers.
